Pressure Sensors
There are different types of pressure sensors and their packaging, materials and connector types change according to application areas.
Board Level Pressure Sensors
Board level or PCB-mountable pressure sensors use piezoresistive silicon die technology and are suitable for air or non-corrosive gases for pressure ranges from 1 to 500 PSI. Board level sensors are used for medical applications, air flow , HVAC, leak detection and other test and industrial applications. Packaging includes TO-5, TO-8 and DIP etc. connectors are generally lids or pads for through-hole or surface mountings. Output is generally analog which needs signal conditioning.
Pressure Sensor Elements
Oil-filled stainless steel pressure sensors are suitable for use in harsh environments of liquids or gases and Ultra stable piezoresistive silicon die technology for long term reliability. Applications include medical devices, process control, liquid level, hydraulics, and compressors. Packages are available in different shapes including cylindrical and application specific shapes. Sensors with Connectors which are Pins or wire headers commonly available.
Pressure Transducers
Pressure transducers are amplified output pressure sensors for everything from high volume OEM use to high accuracy applications. Micro fused technology employs micro machined silicon piezoresistive strain gages fused with high temperature glass to a stainless steel diaphragm to create a hermetic seal for use in harsh environments. Applications include pumps, compressors, hydraulics, water management, refrigeration and HVAC. Measurement Specialties’ high performance line includes Ultra stable transducers for instrumentation, foil strain gage transducers for severe environments and EP series miniature transducers used for automotive, aerospace and industrial testing. There are Ultra sta ble transducers which packaged for liquid level measurement. Those are mounts externally onto a tank fully submersible in water or corrosive liquids.
